Event Description

Please note: this event takes place in the Central Time Zone.

Crossroads Arts Fellow Taurean Webb's art exhibit Ye Shall Inherit the Earth, will be on display at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ from January 12th through January 20th. “It is both a tribute to the beauty of African Diasporic and Arab culture and a commentary about the ways that all of humanity— regardless of social location or context—reflects the sacred. This exhibition aims to capture the spirit of culture and freedom-making in moments when they transcend the boundaries of group, nation, religious affiliation, or class, bringing us closer to the possibilities present in global solidarity work. In the US and elsewhere around the world, there is a robust history of joint liberation efforts between African- and Arab- descended peoples, fighting similar issues of xenophobia, racism, gender-based injustices and other similar social problems. For this reason, “Inherit” centralizes the works and lived experiences of artists who self-identify as of Palestinian-, Lebanese-, or African-descent.”

“On Sunday, January 19th , from 1:30pm to 2:45pm Central Time, Trinity UCC’s Artists In Residence Ministry will host artists of the Inherit The Earth exhibit in conversation. Come to hear from these incredible artists as they discuss how their art, how portraiture-as-form represents the range of ways in which ordinary, everyday, mundane human experience nevertheless reflects the divine—i.e., the beauty of humanity / the beauty of creation / the wonder of religious expression / the strength of culture and/or the spirit of liberation.”
